With soul-stirring vocals, Freedom’s latest single
“Manman Mande Pou Nou” is a rallying cry in the midst of uncertainty, natural disasters, and
arguably one of Haiti’s worst political climates in years.
Echoing a mother’s mournful wails, the singer embodies the island calling her estranged sons
and daughters back to her.
The lyrics begin “ Mwen di anmwe, nan 4 kafou” calling out to Haiti’s children spread across the four corners of the world. It continues: “ Where are the doctors, the agronomists, the lawyers, the patriots? Mother Haiti is calling you back. She needs you”
Freedom explains, “ with this song, we are reaching out to Haitians around the world, not just
those in Haiti. They have to remember that they are one family and that Haiti needs them. We
have to unite to progress as a people - coming together is the only way forward.”

The song draws its style from “ Rasin” (Haitian roots music), combining elements of traditional
and ceremonial drums and chants. Historically, this style has often been used as an unofficial
form of protest, containing implicit or explicit criticism of socio-political conditions. Rasin
expresses the hopes and longings of people who share a common vision or purpose.
“ Manman Mande Pou Nou '' acts as a unifying anthem and the gathering call of a divided nation.
“ Music has always accompanied moments of shift and transformation,” adds Freedom. “ The
single is a message of love, because Haiti needs its children back.”
